With the purchase of Pilgrim Nuclear Power Station in 1999, Entergy was the first company in the U.S. to acquire an operating nuclear plant through competitive bidding. By 2007, Entergy added five more nuclear reactors to the five in Entergy’s service territory.
In another first, Entergy obtained a management contract in 2002 providing support and management services to Cooper Nuclear Station in Nebraska. The contract with Cooper’s owner, Nebraska Public Power District, has been subsequently extended until 2029.
With 6,000 nuclear employees, Entergy is also recognized globally as a provider of nuclear services to companies in the U.S. and around the world.
“We are invested in supporting our country’s
growing electricity needs. Energy independence with sources that are clean,
reliable and affordable is important to all Americans. Nuclear power fits
that bill perfectly and is a vital part of the electricity-generating mix
needed now and for generations to come.”
